Johnson Hills Park: Amenities

Johnson Hills Park consists of 136 acres of rolling hills & wooded terrain. One unique aspect of Johnson Park is the past residence of William McNeilan Johnson and his wife Marian B. Johnson. This beautiful historic home has a myriad of possible uses, however further study is needed to determine feasibility.

The land also features stables that are being leased to a private contractor, Bridle Run Stables. Bridle Run Stables currently offers riding lessons, boarding opportunities and provides horse-training services at this location. Contact Trish Sanders at 513.474.6406 or 528-1838 for more information. This lease continues on a short-term basis until the district determines its future direction for the equestrian setting. The park’s development will emphasize its current natural state so as to round out the ATPD’s recreational offerings.

Possible park amenities in the future include: picnic shelters, gardens, rustic camping cabins, nature observation areas, improved nature trails, frisbee golf, and a facility that might house the children’s day camp programs, nature education, and provide rental income from parties and events. Also under consideration is the possibility of continuing the equestrian operation and horse trails to complement the unique atmosphere of the park. This would involve either renovating the existing barn or creating a new barn and complementing facilities on a different part of the property.

Improvements on the Johnson Property will first include the creation of paved access roadways and necessary infrastructure development. The final plan for Johnson Park will include components that have revenue-generating capabilities to pay for the construction and maintenance of the new park.
